Why this place

Dandong is the border town on the Yalu River, and the river itself is the attraction: you can take a boat that goes close to the far bank, and the broken bridge — bombed in the Korean War — stops halfway across with the far half still lying in the water.

• The Broken Bridge over the Yalu, with its severed span and the view across
• Sightseeing boats on the Yalu that approach the opposite bank
• The Great Wall's easternmost surviving stretch at Hushan, and the Fenghuang Mountain wall

• Yalu River fish and Dandong seafood
• Korean-influenced food is common here — cold noodles, kimchi and grilled meat
