What this site stores in your browser

Your preferences and progress are kept in your browser's local storage — a store that belongs to your browser, on your device. It is not sent to us and we cannot read it. The keys this site uses are:

• hp-card-progress, hp-course-pb, hp-path-checks — flashcards, course and learning-plan progress
• hp-hw-prog, hp-hw-outline, hp-hw-speed — stroke-practice settings and progress
• hp.skin, hp.mode, hp.lang, hp.inst, hp.rd — appearance, language and reading-panel preferences
• hp-nocount, hp-search — whether the count-down was dismissed, and your last search

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it. Nothing else is lost, because there is nothing else.

What this site does not do

• It does not set cookies of its own.
• It does not have accounts, logins, comments or contact forms.
• The search box filters an index that is already downloaded into your browser — what you type is not transmitted anywhere.
• It does not run analytics or tracking scripts, and it does not use advertising pixels outside the ad units described below.
• It does not sell, share or transfer personal information, because it does not collect any.

Server logs

Like every website, the hosting provider records requests — IP address, the page requested, time and user agent — in order to serve the site and to defend against abuse. Those logs are kept by the hosting provider (Cloudflare) under its own policy, are used for operations and security rather than profiling, and are not combined with anything else on this site.

Advertising

This site may show advertising in order to cover its costs. When advertising is enabled, third-party vendors — including Google — use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Specifically:

This site teaches Chinese and is used by learners of all ages, including children. It collects no personal information from anyone, and therefore none from children. The content is suitable for general audiences.

Changes

If this policy changes — for example when advertising is switched on or off — the date at the top of this page changes with it. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
