Why this place

This Yichun is in Jiangxi (there is another in Heilongjiang) and it is a mountain city — Mingyue Mountain and its hot springs are the main attraction, along with the Yichun area's well-preserved rural temples.

What to see

• Mingyue Mountain (Moon Mountain), with hot springs, waterfalls and a cable car
• Wenzao and the old villages of the surrounding counties
• Jiangxi's rural Buddhist temples, many of them small and unvisited

What to eat

• Yichun is known for its bamboo shoots and its mountain vegetables
• Jiangxi rice noodles and cured meats
