The northern Anhui Suzhou — a coal city, not the gardens one
Why this place
This Suzhou is in northern Anhui, near the Jiangsu border, and it is a completely different place from the canal-and-gardens Suzhou further east. It is a coal and agricultural city on the Huai plain, and it is worth knowing the difference — the two are constantly confused.
What to see
- The Huai River and the old canal heritage of the northern plain
- Huangzangyu, a forested mountain area in the north of the prefecture
- County-level Han and Tang sites, which are scattered through the plain
