A cool city in the western Guizhou mountains
Why this place
Liupanshui is a coal city on the Yunnan–Guizhou plateau, at 1,800 metres, and it is genuinely cool in summer. Its surrounding country has the Wumeng Mountains and the Beipanjiang gorge, one of the deepest river gorges in the world.
